The mission of the Hamtramck Historical Commission is to identify, assemble, collect and preserve objects, material, writings, buildings and sites relating to the history and culture of the city and its citizens, both past and present.

Cultural concert will benefit Hamtramck’s history

History and culture will come together at “A Concert Celebrating Polish Culture,” 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at St. Hugo of the Hills in Bloomfield Hills.

The concert will feature Leszek Bartkiewicz, pianist; Curtis Posuniak, pianist; the Hamtramck Historical Chamber Ensemble and the Wawel Polish Folk Ensemble.

The event will benefit the Hamtramck Historical Commission and its efforts to build a historical museum in Hamtramck.

Hamtramck, founded in 1798, is one of the oldest communities in southeast Michigan and has a rich history and multicultural heritage. For the past decade, the Hamtramck Historical Commission has been striving to create a historical museum to showcase the many items it has collected and serve as a community resource.

A group of caring residents of the Bloomfield Hills area came together to arrange this special event to help make that plan a reality.

Along with the program of Polish music, arranged by Posuniak, the event will include a silent auction and wine and dessert afterglow.

Tickets are $50 general admission; $100 for patrons; $150 for benefactors: and $15 for students.
Checks should be made payable to the Friends of Historical Hamtramck, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
Checks and credit card information can be sent to Rita Margherio, 4633 Twin Fawn Lane, Orchard Lake, MI 48324. For additional information, call (248) 642-6923.

St. Hugo is at 2215 Opdyke in Bloomfield Hills.
